Trauma Informed Addiction Treatment and Therapy

Trauma-informed men’s rehab at Arrowhead Lodge Recovery integrates a variety of strategies to provide an effective addiction rehab. We create individual treatment programs according to the needs of each client. Treatment begins with a detailed assessment; including attention to possible trauma in the client’s history and trauma-related symptoms.

Multiple assessments are used to track the client’s progress and to adjust treatment. A trauma-informed and problem-solving approach assures that all clients are treated with attention to their strengths and needs.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Training encourage emotional regulation and teach positive responses to stressful situations.

This increases self-esteem, decreases anxiety and greatly improves relationship issues. Resolution of trauma issues provides a lasting inner peace and greatly assists in maintaining sobriety.

Addiction and Trauma

Addiction and trauma disorders are closely linked. Alcohol and other drugs are commonly used to “self-medicate” against negative symptoms associated with trauma.

These may include:

  • Recurrent, unwanted distressing memories of the traumatic event
  • Reliving the traumatic event as if it were happening again (flashbacks)
  • Upsetting dreams about the traumatic event
  • Severe emotional distress or physical reactions to anything that reminds of the event
  • Irritability, angry outbursts or aggressive behavior
  • Continually being on guard for danger
  • Overwhelming guilt or shame
  • Self-destructive behavior, such as drinking too much or driving too fast
  • Trouble concentrating
  • Insomnia
  • Being easily startled or frightened

Some specialized areas of Arrowhead Lodge Recovery trauma treatment include:

  • CTT – Certified Trauma Therapist
  • EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
  • SEP – Somatic Experiencing Practitioner

For clients who suffer from trauma, Arrowhead Lodge Recovery provides group and individual counseling by licensed therapists who are certified and trained in multiple trauma therapies.
